So I've just finished school, which is brilliant. It means I have sixteen months of freedom before I go to University (anyone surprised at my age? Well, yeah, I'm a baby).
Which brings me onto to where I am with my writing:
Not That Sort of a Girl: Halfway through the most recent chapter. I really want to get it out but it's very hard to write. Good news is, once it's done the whole War Section will be done with. Whoop. I'll give myself a week and try and get it done. I've been editing it on GE, adding in the dates and some pictures and checking my grammar and spelling once again. Amazing how much can be missed even by me, my beta and a submissions witch. I hate putting in the 1997/2019 things but I'm doing it to make it clearer at the beginning. If anyone wants to go have a look and report back that would be amazing.
New Story- Building Bridges: This might get written. It's about ttwelve thousand words or so in at the moment. It'll be a Lumione, partly based on NTSofaG if Hermione hadn't snuck out to London and bumped into Lucius. The pretext is, she disapears for seven years and now she's back, after making a (different) name for herself fighting in a war in Africa based on Apartheid but in North Africa. Cliché? Yes. But I was interested in seeing if I could make the cliché come to life and write it well and convincingly enough that people would like it. I'll post the prologue and first chapter here soon and if it gets a good reaction it'll go to my lovely beta and then onto GE.
Dramione short story: Yeah yeah, I know I rant about Dramiones but I guess everyone has to write them. It's not the pairing I dislike but the quality of the writing and the ridiculous plots people come up with. This would be in a post-war, non DH Seventh Year with Hermione as Head Girl (but not Draco). He wants to piss off Ron, she wants House Unity, they strike a deal. Every boy wants to shag his Head Girl after all. Probably called Sleeping With the Enemy but not definitely. I started this about a year ago, didn't write much, and now I'm going to continue it because it entertains me.
GE Fuh-Q-Fest: defintely taking part in this. Prompts coming out in a few hours so that's exciting!

Don't steal these: I'll notice and hunt you down as they are mainly chapter images for me. The pictures are from the Italian Vogue spread so obviously I don't own those. I don't see that anyone would want to steal them but I was just warning you in case.

I stole the link from Tink's page and... aw look! Yay. Lucius was committing suicide, but calmed down when I told him he wasn't an option.
So that's dandy; I'm Mrs Black. However...

LOL. But at least I got

Your perfect HP man is Sirius Black.

You want a relationship filled with fun times, with a guy who you know will always back you up. Sure, he's a bit of a jerk with anyone who he doesn't approve of, but as long as he likes you, he'll be a lot of fun. Your days will be filled with laughter and merriment, though if you ever have kids, you'd better be prepared to lay some rules down or else they'll end up with a bunch of reckless rulebreakers running around, transforming into animals at every turn.
Actually I hope my kids are reckless rulebreakers who can turn into animals. That would be awesome. Although if I were married to Sirius I doubt we'd ever leave the bedroom.

Seven Deadly Sins? I'm trying to think of which one I'm least likely to commit as I'm pretty sure I commit all seven, every day.
Seven Sins for Seven Days? Like 7 Brides but so much better.
ANYway onto my rant.
WTF is up with the (admittedly inevitable) Twilight/HP crossovers. They aren't going to work. Stephenie Meyer can't write that well. Her books approach ridiculous, as entertaining a read as they might be at the time.
Having Edward Cullen at Hogwarts is unlikely to work unless you are a very talented fiction writer. I've read very few crossovers that have worked, the main one being Keogh by Chelle, which is a fantastic crossover with something that I can't even remember. Because it doesn't matter, the story has become her own in a way which Twilight/HP Crossover writers seem unable to grasp.
It's just... so terribly dull to have to see the same story idea again and again. Where is the originality? Gah! I hate ff.net sometimes, and every time I go on it I become more and more convinced that not only is the level of writing plunging downhill faster than me on a black run, but that the ideas for the stories become either increasing, yawningly generic, or increasingly idiotic.
I hate plotlines that haven't been thought out. Going back in time to 'stop Snape turning bad' for example. A) SS/HG stories are almost always icky in my personal opinion, and B) why would you want to? If Snape hadn't turned bad there would have been much less drama. And who on earth wants less drama in the world? Not I.
Another thing which really gets on my tits is when people do speech badly. I must just insert a disclaimer here- I'm not saying I'm the master of speech or anything but when you write a line for a character at least try and imbue it with something that shows it is this or that person's voice. Sirius (or Ron or Harry) would say 'mate' for example, whereas Hermione would not. Snape would never use a pet name like babe.
Can you imagine? *Shudders* Nor would Dumbledore for that matter.
It really is the little things that go such a long way towards characterisation. Simple rules like some characters just wouldn't say certain things so use your brain is one of them. Avoid exclamation marks unless absolutely vital is another. And overuse of italics, something I'm certainly guilty of. The writing, a very wise friend once told me, should speak for itself.
*twirls*
On a happier note, my stories are coming along well. I wrote what was meant to be a two-shot called Cruel Eyes about Adrian and Hermione. It got a rather good reception and now I've been told I simply must expand it, so I shall try. I've submitted my Valentine's Day Ficlet to GE (A Regulus/Hermione called Cor Leonis, and Not That Sort of a Girl (my Lumione) is ticking along quite well.

Where have all the good WIPs gone? There are a few, usually by tried and tested authors but not really on fanfiction.net and definitely not on harrypotterfanfiction.net
Is there a general decline in interest or is it just a decline in standards? It might just be me but it feels like I'm running out of stories to read.
On a happier note, the second chapter of my story has just been submitted to grangerenchanted for validation (after a long story involving emails wandering the realms of cyberspace by its lonesome. Aw.)
Anyway, any good recommendations- preferably Hermione centric and not not not with Ron as the main pairing... send 'em my way!

Cheese should go on pizza, pasta, salad (thought not like cheddar obviously- mozzarella or parmesan or goats cheese)
It should go on crackers and in sandwiches.
Bree, goats cheese (can you tell I really, really like it?) camenbert etc etc should just be constantly accessible.

I used to be the biggest Dramione fan, possibly ever. It was all I read.
But lately I can't remember reading a single new one and not thinking that it was either appallingly written or really unoriginal.
There are about five on-going ones that I've enjoyed (Tainted Love and The Bracelet- both are on GE which are fantastic) but most are just... crap. The post-Hogwarts ones seem to be better than the during Hogwarts... because, really, there's only so many versions of Hermione-and-Draco -are-Head-Boy-and-Girl-and-share-a-commo
Why Draco? I understand the appeal, even now, but there are so many exciting characters in HP who have practically blank slates and you can make your own much more easily. The most popular of these is Blaise, presumably because of his exotic name. However, Adrian Pucey, Marcus Flint, Theo Nott, Montague, Vaisey being the most obvious. Go and look on a character list; there are loads of them. The whole forbidden love thing is great, just not focused on one character in the same way three million times.
I get the appeal of Slytherin boys completely... but there's always the older, more experienced, more dangerous versions.
Why would you pick Draco, if you could have Lucius?
Or Rodolphus, or Rastaban, or Dolohov and what, exactly, is wrong with a good Tom Riddle/Voldemort fic?
Which brings me neatly on to Time Travel.
One of the brilliant things about Time Travel in the HP universe is that we know it's possible. It's been done in the books. Whoo! However, the endless the-time-turner-breaks-fictions are getting old as well. Think up a clever, original way for them to go back in time.
